Jim graduated from Winthrop University in 1986 with a B.A. in Sociology and was a member of the Sociology Honor Committee. He spent the next 30 years working in Professional Baseball in both Scouting and Player Development departments. At age 25, Jim was the youngest Manager in baseball while working for the New York Mets minor league team in Kingsport, TN. Jim spent 15 years as a Manager, Instructor, and Coordinator, in the Minor Leagues until arriving as Major League Coach in 2001 with the Cincinnati Reds. His teams set many minor league records that stood for decades.
In 2002, Jim then started his 15-year career as both a Major League and International Scout. His passion in athletic development also lead him to develop and supervise the first Research and Development Center in the history of baseball in 1998 in Sarasota, FL. His studies were published in numerous research and baseball publications which established a groundbreaking path to improve player performance and health as well as restrict performance enhancing drugs.
With his background in Real Estate and Business Development, Jim opened the Northern Virginia Baseball Academy in 1996, which grew to 3 facilities and more than 43,000 square feet of indoor training space. A market capture rate of over 80% of baseball and softball players in Northern Virginia allowed for 8-10% ROI. Jim was also responsible for launching the Mid Atlantic baseball/softball facility in Ashland, VA which is today a top draw for all age Perfect Game tournaments. He currently is a consultant for many indoor/outdoor training facilities throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Jim moved to the Sarasota area in 1998 and has helped grow the game of baseball and assist in launching private baseball instruction facilities. Jim is a highly respected motivational speaker, team leader, project and development manager as well as a dedicated volunteer in both Sarasota and Manatee counties.
